7 riders on AJS/Matchless bikes met at CRFC. The weather forecast was bad and some wore overtrousers but the rain held off all day. Tony led us off on a local bimble down some bumpy roads leading to Banks and the coast road. We stopped for a break at the sea front by the Marine Lake then rode on past the funfare to Woodvale. This where it started to get really bumpy as we clonked our way down the infamous Plex Lane. We skirted Cleives Hills and after negotiating some narrow nadgery we ended up at the Scotch Piper, the oldest pub in Lancashire.
All of a sudden there was much activity centred around Alan’s G12. Fuel was pouring from the tank’s front mounting bolt. The tank was removed as fast as Alan’s fingers could move and propped up against a fence to try to preserve the precious contents. Tony volunteered to go home and return in his car with a tank that would fit. Meanwhile we enjoyed the hospitality of the landlady who brought us coffees and cheese rolls. Much discussion followed about whether to have bacon and egg or egg and bacon barmcakes. A bit of drizzle (not cake!) sent us under the awning and after a heated debate on the influence of the ukelele on world affairs, Tony arrived back. He’d actually removed the tank off his other bike, still containing fuel! After much fitting, fiddling and funnelling the tank was on and looked very good!
Hero Tony had to go off to get ready for his holiday in the wilds of North East Scotland on a Haggis Farm. Dave took over to lead the rest to the Rigbye Arms via Ashurst and Appley Bridge. After a welcome pint of Timothy Taylors we all rattled off home.
