The Silverdale Run 8th July

A warm dry morning saw 8 riders turn up at the start for Richard’s run to Silverdale.

As we set off I thought this is weird, we are heading south and Silverdale is North! Oh well, follow the leader he must know what he is doing. Yes he did, were were on a trip across Fylde and Over Wyre to visit Hambleton. On the way we passed through St Michaels where there were some Temporary traffic lights at the bridge over the river. The lights turned green and I stalled the bike but before I could restart the lights turned to red. Embarrassing! At hambleton we turned off to Wardleys Creek and having passed the marina took the narrowest, gravelly roads with briars waving at us from the tall hedges and the most enormous flying bugs crashing into us until we reached Preesall and entered civilisation again where two vehicles can pass each other! From Preesall we followed the Lancaster road across Pilling Moss through Cockerham to end up at Glasson Dock for a brew.

After refreshments Richard set off and took us to Lancaster where he duly stalled his bike in the middle of the traffic in front of a double decker bus! See we can all do it! After winding through the melee that is Lancaster’s one way system we took the A6 north in light rain showers but we carried on regardless. At Carnforth we turned left and took the coastal route round to Silverdale. Despite the rain we ordered our drinks and sat round the picnic tables outside under the shelter of the sun umbrellas to eat our lunches!

By the time we had eaten the rain had stopped so from this point the run was dry. Richard took us over to Arnside which was not very busy. Here we crossed under the rail line and headed towards Sandside but turned off to Slack Head and then onto Beetham, Yealnd redmayne Yealand Conyers and down to Warton where we turned off to Nether Kellet and down to Caton Where we took the usual route back via Quernmore and Dolphinholme  to Garstang.  Auction eats was not open and the Myerscough cafe was about to close so we had a chat and some put waterproofs on as the sky was darkening. I wish I had too as 3-4 miles after leaving I rode into a thunderstorm and desperately looked for an overhanging tree to get under and put my waterproofs on. The ride home from here was very wet but all went well.

A nice ride led by Richard and weather didn’t spoil if for me.
