Chris’s Run Saturday 29th August 2026
A cloudy start to the day but 6 riders arrived at Auction Eats for the run. At Bull Beck we met up with Peter and Chris and after a break we set off with Chris leading towards Hornby. After Hornby we turned off to cross the river and enter Gressingham. Here the we took a right turn up Rabbit Lane to get to the Kirkby Lonsdale road and carried on through Arkholm and Newton to get to Whittington where we turned left into Church street and a little way along we turned right into a very narrow Hosticle Lane. This was a very narrow lane with grass growing in the centre which could have done with a good mowing! We carried on to Biggins lane to meet the A65 West of Kirkby Lonsdale, turned left and after few hundred yards we turned right into Hophouse Lane. Just before the B6254 at Mansergh we turned left into an unnamed lane that took us to Goodmickle Lane. Wow some good names out here! We carried on to All Saints Church and turned into Lupton Row. Another lovely narrow lane through wide grassy fields also with a lawn down the middle of the lane! This took us round Tarnhouse Tarn and on towards the M6. We turned left into an unnamed lane here and crossed the motorway, turned right onto The A65 at Preston Patrick, rode through Crooklands to end up at Elaine’s Bakery in Endmoor.
We parked up in the yard beside the bakery and went in to select our meals. Wow what a lot of lovely pies and pasties were available with sandwiches made to order. We each bought our lunch and walked down to a seat beside the road opposite the Club Inn and sat and ate in the now very nice sunny weather.
After the lunch we continued on up the A65 to Oxenholme and turned right to Millholme and then rode along the road that runs alongside the M6, crossing over the M6 just above Killington Reservoir. We followed the A684 to the junction with the B6526 which runs alongside the north bank of the River Lune which is a lovely scenic road and then branched right onto an unclassified road through Rigmaden Park where surprisingly there were signs warning drivers to avoid Red Squirrels. Then at Kearstwick we turned left down into Kirkby Lonsdale for a break in the town square.
The return from here was via the same route we had ridden north, back through Whittington Newton and Arkholme and straight down to Halton Park where Chris and Peter left us and the remainder headed back to Garstang Via Quermore.
What a lovely ride and day out and even with the testing, overgrown, gravel strewn and potholed roads we encountered everyone enjoyed it.
