11:15am and 3 riders gathered at the Myerscough Pub for the run to Gregson Green Community centre to help raise funds for improvements. A couple of locals, out for a walk chatted with us as we waited and then they carried on towards BAE.  Where is Bob? Where are the others we puzzled?  Then the walkers came back and told us there were some more bikers at the Boddington Arms at the other end of the lay-by. Were we part of the same group they asked? Dave wandered round to see who it was and yes the rest of the riders had come to the lay-by at the other end of the Boddington Inn and parked, unseen by us. So all is well that ends well and 7 riders and bikes set off behind Bob for a short run via Mellor to the Gregson Green Community centre.

Here we were ushered to the basketball area to park and although we were offered the chance to park on the grass closer to the activities we declined as it was very soggy after the overnight rain and we doubted the stability of the bikes on soggy ground. Shortly after parking and finding our bearings Bob was approached by the Mayoral Party minder to ask for a Mayoral meeting with us and the bikes.  Chairman Richard was pushed to the front to speak to the Lady Mayor who was very interested in our club, if a little perplexed at what we did on these bikes. After explaining the purpose of attending and the age of the machines she seemed very interested in discussing the problems of keeping them on the road and spare parts etc. We had an impromptu photo shoot taken for the album and after a few more searching questions the Mayoral party left to visit the other activities.

A walk round the event found it very well attended with drinks, cakes and other food on sale with the Brindle Brass Band keeping the air full of stirring music.  Inside the hall the pictures of the scarecrows entered into the competition were displayed and many were very good and humorous. Bob had made three scarecrows dressed as Olympic athletes and looked an immense work of art.

Richard challenged Bob to a game of crazy golf and while the others were entertaining the visitors they started the round but were interrupted by the tannoy announcing that Bob had won 3rd prize for his scarecrows. Well done Bob. He then proceeded to thrash Richard at golf. Well done Bob!

So back to the bikes and curious visitors where Joe was setting off on his Mk “X”, what a lovely bike that is.  Shortly after this Jim departed on the Norton and shortly after this the other riders kitted up and the visit finished.

I think the visit was appreciated by the residents and we all had very nice couple of hours showing off our steeds and partaking of the goodies on sale. Thanks to all the riders who attended.
