Lee’s Ride 30 May
8 riders arrived at the start and to our amazement all the bikes of the marque were twins, 3 model 30’s 1 model 31 and 2 G11’s. There would have been a G80CS but Lee has had to park it as the knocking noises have returned. It was a pleasant sunny morning and we set off up past Barnacre and through the ford to get to Long Lane at Scorton which was closed into the village. They seem to be laying new water mains everywhere. From here we rode up to Dolphinholme and took the now open, Proctor Moss Road and crossed onto the west side of the valley to get to Scotforth Mill and up to Quernmore. A left here and then right into Rigg lane to Littldale Road. Just before Brookhouse we turned right and drove over Salter fell up by the wind turbines and used a gated road to get onto the road that drops down into Wray. Just after leaving the gated road Lee stopped and ran back past the stationary bikes to rescue a lamb that had got its head stuck in between the steel bars of a gate. Our hero Lee and all of us then watched the freed lamb run back to its Mum with its sibling to suckle. What a happy sight. Shortly after this we arrived in Wray where we stopped for lunch. A very scenic route that most had never ridden before and a wonderful animal rescue.
After lunch we set off through Millhouses and turned off onto Spen Brow and joined Lythe Fell road to get to Slaidburn. We didn’t stop here but turned right at the war memorial and onto Back Lane which took us down to Newton In Bowland from whence we rode via Cow Ark and Whitewell to Dunsop Bridge and parked up in the car park. The weather was fabulous just warm enough to be comfortable riding and not too hot when stopped.
After a break at Dunsop we rode back through the Trough of Bowland and turned off at Marshaw to get us back to long Lane at Scorton and then we parked up at the Applestore cafe on Snow Hill Lane at Scorton for coffee and ice creams to finish the ride.
A great ride and many thanks to Lee for all his work in creating such a good scenic ride.
