Lee’s Run Report 18/05/2024
A lovely sunny day greeted the riders at Auction Eats for a 70 mile run led by Lee.
9 riders in total set off but after a mile or so we were down to 7 as one rider had a problem with his drive shock absorber and one rider stayed with him to help fix it. It caused a bit of confusion as the leading riders were not aware of the problem.
Lee led us up through the Barnacre woodlands and on towards Marshaw but turned off to take us down through the Duke of Westminster’s estate to Stoops Bridge where we turned let to Quernmore. At Quermore we turned off to go through the farming community of Littledale and then back to the Black Bull at Caton and turned right through Caton Green to meet the A683 and then to Wray where we stopped for a break at the Bridge House Farm Tearooms. At this point a rider reported that his back brake operating rod had snapped so scouts were sent out to find some fencing wire to make a jury rigged brake but the helpful farmer heard what our problem was and offerred to weld it back together. The rod was taken off the bike and in no time it was gas welded back together. A hero is never far away when you break down on a bike!
Frome Wray we rode up onto Lythe Fell road and down to Slaidburn where I noticed the tearooms were open again after being closed when we visited at the end of April. We didn’t stop but carried on up the hill and turned right and down through Cow Ark to the Inn at Whitewell then over the river bridge towards Dunsop Bridge and up to “Inch Perfect Trials” venue for lunch. Here we met up with the rider with the now fixed shock absorber and spent a good time chatting in the glorious sunshine.
After this we departed back to Auction Eats via Chipping and finished the ride at 3:45pm
A super day and a super ride thanks to Lee.
