A bright and sunny morning tempted 16 riders out for the Memorial Run and Frank led us off on the usual route through Inglewhite towards Longridge. At the cricket club we turned towards Walker Fold and then on to Waddington where a left turn took us up onto the moor and on to Slaidburn. A lovely morning for a run out and the roads were not too wet or muddy just a few obstacles here and there like sheep being herded and some novice car drivers.
At Slaidburn we rested for a while, talking to other bikers in the car park before taking the Lythe Fell Road up over the moors towards Bentham. Just before Bentham I noticed the group behind me was not in sight so at the junction where we we turned off to Wray. I waited a while for them and when they came into view and had seen me I turned off and headed for Wray and our lunch stop.
Here I had to get my spanners out as the rear wheel had worked loose and was giving some iffy handling! Dave came over and said he was sorry he couldn’t find the right indicator which had come off somewhere up on Lythe Fell! That explains why the group behind me disappeared from view. Thanks for stopping and looking Dave and the group.
Wheel retightened and loose wires stowed it was time for some refreshment which was interupted by Colin Gough and Joan arriving to welcome us all to Wray they were shortly followed by Daughter Tracy, Husband Dave and 3 dogs! So while I was having my family reunion, everyone sat out in the sunshine having lunch. Bob seemed a bit upset that he hadn’t been allowed on to the large bouncy castle that was on the field. Perhaps he didn’t look like teenager!
Lunch and reunion over we started up and headed into Wray only be held up by the 5K (or was it 10K?) fun run competitors arriving back in the village to finish at the Garden centre. That explains the bouncy castle! When we were released we rode through the village which was adorned with scarecrows of all sizes and themes. Obviously we had arrived on Wray’s Scarecrow Festival day.
A smooth ride followed to Caton where we turned left to Quernmore where Fank had a senior moment and almost took us back via the Trough of Bowland! Back on the usual course we went down to Dolphinholm and on to Oakenclough turning right down to Catterall and the A6 back to Bilsborrow where we turned off to finish at the Myerscough Garden Centre Cafe.
The day was so nice we sat out in the garden with our refreshments and spent a happy hour chatting before all heading homeward.
Thanks to Frank for leading us and, I presume arranging the weather, and to all the riders for supporting the run.
