Rider Leader John Iball

Riders:-Alan,Peter,Bob,Richard,Tony,Jim,Chris,Steve,Dave.

The ride started on time with super weather for riding, we headed for Newburgh and then turned down back lane to start the green lanes.

We then headed back via the club house to High Moor taking a right down Stony lane to head for Parbold.

Taking a left we headed for Parbold Hill for our first view stop.
We then headed for Standish taking a right at Dangerous Corner, to take the lanes to Mossey Lea Road, we then side tracked Standish via Bradley lane to head for Blackrod. Via the country roads we headed for Adlington to make our way to Limbrick, but after taking a sharp right over the bridge we managed to lose a few riders so we decided to head for our lunch stop at the Lower Barn.
It was soon after we stopped when Chris managed to get the other riders to the barn for their lunch stop.
Heading off left we stopped at our scheduled second stop at the higher reservoir lay-by which gave  us a great view and a chance for the chairman to take a panoramic photo of the riders.
We then headed for Belmont and Egerton to across the A666 via Turton Bottoms to reach Edgworth to find some fantastic riding roads, it was a left for Hoddlesden and then another left to get us back to Edgworth.
We then headed back via the B6391 to again cross the A666, where then took a quick stop to collect all the riders and have a break.
At Belmont we took a right for Abbey Village and then headed for Riley Green, we then took the back roads to have a Drink stop at the Top Lock. The beer was good and we all stood on the bridge enjoying the sunshine a varied conversation.
From the Top Lock it was a petrol stop and then across Leyland to drop the riders off where they could fine home.
It was like leading the red arrows home has the riders dropped off as they spotted their flight paths home.
Thanks to Frank for the day change, but to conclude we had a good ride with some excellent weather and thanks to the riders for joining me.
Cheers
John

10 Riders arrived at the Farmers arms for John’s run on a grey but brightening morning. We set off
towards Parbold and turned off to go to Appley Bridge and tour round the lanes above
Skelmersdale.
Then on to our first stop at the Parbold Hill overlook. By now the weather was clearing and the
views were quite extensive. Then we travelled on through Adlington to Limbrick to cross
Anglezarke Reservoir. Somehow 5 riders missed the turn to Limbrick but after waiting in the village
for a while we decided to go on to our lunch stop at the Great House Barn and here after, a few minutes, the other 5 riders turned up led by Chris who took control and became their leader to the barn.
After a good break we rode up to the Anglezarke viewpoint for a photo session in lovely sunny
weather and then back to the Belmont Road via Sheep House lane. Having ridden over the top of
Belmont to Belmont village there seemed to be a reception at the Black Dog with coaches parked
on the main road and lots of very well dressed ladies and gents heading for the pub. We managed to
cross the road and take the next left signed to Egerton and Turton Tower. This was all new
countryside to most of the riders and the pretty villages of Chapeltown and Turton with their
industrial revolution era stone houses still intact and mainly unspoiled were a pleasant surprise to
me.
From Edgworth we followed the Broadhead Road. A moor top road with great scenery and then
turned off before the Grane Road to Hoddleston. From here we returned to Belmont village and
took the A675 through Abbey Village to Riley Green and left towards Brindle.
Somehow John managed to lead us to the Top Lock pub by the canal at Wheelton for a last planned
stop where we found a beer festival was in full swing. Stopping here for a while for refreshment we
declared the run a great outing, thanked John for his planning and set off again on our final leg
towards Leyland. Having crossed the A6 and arrived in Leyland the riders took their various routes
home after a very well planned and executed ride out.
Thanks very much to John for making the last run of the season such a memorable one.
