10 riders congregated at Samlesbury for the start of Frank’s run on a partly cloudy evening but it
was dry and warm. Frank set off up the A59 and turned off to Mellor Brook and then on past
Ramsgreave and Wilpshire Station. There were fine views as we drove round parsonage Reservoir
and on to Rishton. A left turn here took us on to the Blackburn road and a turn off for Padiham. Just
before Padiham we made a sudden left turn at the Technology Park up and the hill to the A671
where we turned left to Simonstone. A right turn up a small road in the village took us up to a
wooded area along the ridge of Pendle through archways of trees where it was damp and cool.
Then left down into Sabden. Out of Sabden we passed over the Nick of Pendle and past the Ski
Club turning left before we got to the A59. Here we followed the lower road back through
Pendleton towards Whalley. It was noticeable how many grand houses are set back into the hillside
here with large iron gates to their drives and manicured gardens. Out of Whalley we took the road to
Billington and Langho, then on to Clayton Le Dale and back to Frank’s place at Copster Green.
At Frank’s we posed for a photo before going in to see Barbara and partaking of some of her
delicious corned beef hash and trifle, some tea and a great chat session.
A lovely evening ride topped by some smashing food and company. Thanks must go to Frank and
Barbara for all the effort they both put in to make our evening so enjoyable.
