Our last run of the season on 7th October was postponed due to all the bad weather forecasts but at last stability returned and the run was re-scheduled for the 4th November. The forecast was for a bright and calm, partly sunny day and as forecast the sun greeted the 9 riders that turned up at the club. At 10:30 John set off towards the A49 via the Hinds Head to avoid the temporary traffic lights on Charter Lane here we turned right towards Euxton where we got held up by the temporary traffic lights between the crematorium and Back Lane. We turned into Back Lane and ended up in Eccleston. A right turn here and down to the bridge over the river Yarrow where there were temporary traffic lights just before our left fork to Ulnes Walton. I can’t remember exactly where all the other temporary traffic lights we came across were located but I counted 10 sets, that is one set every 6 miles on the run! From here we took the Moss Side road and at Much Hoole we came to a road closed sign. John ignored this and carried on past all the diggers and trench digging equipment to get back to Moss Side lane where a left turn turn took us to Longton and the A59. Left here up to Tarelton and a left turn at Sollom over the Strand Bridge to Bretherton and Croston where we stopped at the Twin Lakes Velo Cafe for a break. After this break we drove through Wrightington, Standish, Adlington, Anderton then across the reservoir to the church and the Village Green Tea Rooms at Rivington. Here we dismounted and went in to find Phil and Peter waiting for us for lunch. They had come independently as they had appointments to keep, so now we were 11. While we were having lunch when a heavy rain shower occurred but luckily it had finished when we returned to the bikes. After a very nice lunch we set off back over the reservoir causeway and rode up to the causeway over Anglezarke reservoir and round the Yarrow reservoir to get to the Rivington Road over Winter Hill to Belmont Village. A right turn here took us up to the scenic Scout Road and down to Horwich. From here a busy run up to Heath Charnock and back to the club. A lovely run of just over 60 miles, a super lunch break and a nice scenic route regardless of the road closures and temporary traffic lights. For the time of year we were not bothered with slippery leaf strewn roads or mud covered roads which is the norm for this time of year.
Thanks John for a well organised run.
