The Chip Shop Run 2023

On a grey but mild morning 8 bikes and nine riders arrived at the club for the Chip Shop Run. Before we set off there was a small presentation made to Dave A (our Leader for the day) because earlier in the year we had proposed to Jampot Central that he should be recommended for the Unsung Hero Award for services given to the club and members over very many years. At the National Rally in Salisbury last weekend the results were announced and Dave had been selected. Bob C was present at the Rally and collected the award on Dave’s behalf and it was our great pleasure to inform Dave, thank him and give him his Medalion for the Basil Chilvers Award 2023 before we set off.

After all this excitement Dave, with Rose on the pillion set off to lead us to the chip shop in Eccleston where the food was ordered and subsequently devoured in the seating area next to the chippy. After this we set off up Bannister Green to the top and turned right to get to Bispham Green and then on to Hoscar, Newburgh and Bickerstaff. The weather turned a bit patchy now and we rode through a few light showers. At Rainford Junction we turned to go through Pimbo and on to Upholland. At a double mini roundabout in Upholland the front three lost contact with the following five and after a bit of chasing round trying to find them we decided to carry on to our finish point as Tony was with the following five and knew where we were going. We then travelled on through Dalton back to Wrightington? and the Rigbye Arms where we stopped for refreshments to end the run. After about 10 minutes the others arrived and reported that one bike had got oil on the magneto points and a stop was made to clean them. That is why we lost contact. Anyway all’s well that ends well and after a while drinking and chatting we all set off on our various ways home after a lovely run out. Thanks to Dave for a selecting a nice route through some lovely uncluttered lanes in West Lancs (or was part of it in Merseyside?!) and congratulations on the award. It is well deserved
