Sunday 21st August saw a good turn out of the NW Section at the Farmers Arms Motorfest. The club banner had been erected to identify our patch and about 10 members arrived and displayed their steeds. Beside and behind the Section was the NW Moped “Peddlers” Group with all types of mopeds and auto-cycles on display. Several BSA marks arrived and there was a James from the 1920’s in original but not working condition which chairman Richard tried to get the owner to sell but as he had owned it, and ridden it since 1953 and was emotionally attached to it it was not for sale.
One home made moped was very well constructed with Webb girder forks and a Trojan 75cc engine slung under the crossbar. It looked like an American Whizzer but was all British and had hydraulic brakes!
Later on a Velocette venom? Arrived to join the other makes and a Sunbeam model 9 I think from the 1930s.
On the car side there were a few Morris Minors, a lovely Volvo 544 and a nice 1930s Vauxhall?
A very nice sports car that looked like a Porche but was Japanese was very nice and rare import. (The name escapes me). Competition machines were represented by a Formula Ford style racer with a 1600cc cross-flow engine matched to a special gearbox and a mini based Formula 11 stock car. Apparently the landlord had expected some commercial vehicles and an old fire engine but neither showed up before we left.
The food was cooked and served Alfresco and many riders had the pork and stuffing barmcake with apple sauce which was superb.
