April 2024 Memorial Run

A fine morning started the day although it was a little chilly. There were loads of bikers at Auction Eats cafe when I arrived but it seems the local Harley gang were having a run out to Leeds so there were few seats in the cafe for us. At 10:30 we had 12 riders lined up to go with a couple of our new members in attendance.

Dave led us through the lanes to the Longridge road through Inglewhite and then on through the Wild Boar park to The Inn at Whitewell and Dunsop Bridge where there were many bikers parked up on the green. We didn’t stop but carried on to Slaidburn for a break and refreshments in the car park. Another member joined us here on a special he had built. Very nicely turned out with a 370 Suzuki engine.

After the rest we set off over the hills on the Lythe Fell Road to Wray. This road rises up to the top of the Bowland Fells and as it was a clear day we could see clear across to Ingleborough, Pen-Y-Ghent and Whernside. A spectacular view on such a clear day.

Arriving at Wray for lunch all the signs were out announcing the Wray Festival so when we parked up at the Garden centre the marquees were up and the burgers on the stove so we had a good lunch!

After lunch we saddled up but had to wait a while as the Wray 10K road run had just got under way with what appeared to be hundreds of runners setting of for a gruelling run around the countryside. After they passed we set off slowly through the village admiring all the scarecrows standing, siting and hanging from the buildings. A great display of community activity. From Wray we joined the Lancaster road to Caton where several members left the group as we turned left to pass through Quernmore and Dolphinhome back to Garstang and then on for our final stop at the tea-room at Myerscough college.

A great day out seemed to be had by all with no issues with any of the machines. Thanks to Dave for leading the run.
