The 2025 Memorial Run
On the third of May we had our annual Memorial run, a chilly start but the day did improve as we rode into Bowland. We sat outside at Auction Eats until everyone had arrived and during this time Tony passed round the growing list of members who used to ride with us and we reminisced a little on the passing of 2 members in the past year.
We were eventually nine riders and we set off following Dave with Rose on Pillion. As we passed the Inn at Whitewell we could see a wedding reception was about to be held, what a lovely day it had become for such an event. We then drove through Dunsop Bridge where I had to think to myself what a terrible stretch of road this has become, potholes upon potholes badly filled in or waiting to be fixed and when we arrived at Newton-By-Bowland it was the same story, Come on LCC get the roads fixed! By the time we reached Slaidburn the sun was shining brightly and there to meet us was our member John M. He had come in his car to see us on our ride and couldn’t be riding with us as he had been hit by a car earlier in April and his bike was written off. He had a bruised body and broken fingers but has recovered well. Then he had another catastrophe at home, his battery charger caught fire in his workshop and the whole place was destroyed with about a dozen bikes (not all his) and they all became a total loss. What a terrible month for John.
A new Triumph 400 Single arrived while we were there and we all had a look at it. Quite a departure for Triumph, building a water cooled Single, after all these years of making multi cylinder bikes.
We then set off for Wray over the moors on Lythe Fell Road and when we arrived it was still lovely and sunny and the Scarecrow festival field was all decked out with a food marquee and the fair with bouncy castle.
We had lunch here with Angus burgers and Hog Roast buns, there is always great food at this event.
After everyone had eaten we set off through the village with all the scarecrows lining the route and drove to Caton and then via Quernmore to end up at Scorton for a coffee and cakes at the Priory Cafe. This could be our new ride end venue as our usual cafe at Myerscough has closed down. The Priory is a pleasant cafe with outside benches where you can sit out and the staff were very pleasant.
Just as we left Scorton, Alan’s clutch cable parted. A few attempts to put a repair nipple on failed, but luckily I had a spare and we were soon back on the road home.
Thanks to Dave for leading us and thanks to the weather for a nice dry run.
