Tony’s Run and Charity Donation to Derian House. 10/5/2023
Eight Riders arrived at CRFC for Tony’s run with an added destination of Derian House to deliver our charity money. The day was a bit overcast and slight rain was falling so I put my waterproof trousers on at the club. At 10:30 we set off and Bob led us to Derian House where we parked up at the front door and Bob arranged for the fund raising team to come out. Mike Croskrey, Fund Manager and Ellie Smith came out to greet us and were suitably impressed with our steeds. We handed the money over and received their thanks for helping the charity. A few pictures were taken for us and for their publicity. Although a bit reticent Ellie was cajoled into sitting on Tony’s bike for a picture to add glamour to the event!
By now the rain was increasing but not heavy so to avoid getting the leathers too wet a waterproof top was donned!
We then set off for a run round South Ribble via Eccleston and Rufford to Southport where we stopped for a few minutes looking out over the Irish Sea. By now blue patches were visible in the sky so the waterproof top came off! We re-started and travelled down the seafront and along the Ainsdale Beach road back to Tony’s place for lunch. By now the sun was shining and we had a great time sitting in the garden and chatting. Hilda had prepared a feast of strawberry scones and a large iced sponge which was devoured along with the lunches we had brought with us.
After a short look in Tony’s man cave to see his nearly completed WD machine we saddled up and set off for The Gasket Cafe at Appley Bridge. Here we parked up and had drinks sitting outside talking to a guy on an inferior machine (BMW) and he seemed to be impressed with our steeds.
We then set off on our different ways home after a very nice ride out.
Many thanks to Tony and Hilda for making the day and the lunch stop so good.
