Lawrie’s Day Out

Tony picked Lawrie up in the car and Rob brought a wheelchair and an electric buggy that was once owned by Jim Kenyon. Rose and I met them at the car park on the Cheshire Lines. This is a cycle or walk way which goes from Southport all the way to the Peak District along the site of the famous railway. Once installed in the buggy Lawrie was away and we had to walk quite fast to keep up with him! He’d brought his binoculars to do some bird watching but I think he was enjoying riding along too much to stop. We decided to go for lunch and ended up at The Saracen’s Head. We enjoyed our meals and a pint outside overlooking the canal watching the Coots and Mallard ducks with their many chicks. I spotted a red kite being harassed by a lapwing and several other interesting little birds.
