9 Riders turned up for the first run of the season which had to be postponed for 1 day due to the poor weather we have been having. The day was a little overcast but dry and quite warm with bits of blue sky here and there.
At 10:30 we were ready to set off but one bike suddenly decided to act up and after a quick plug change all was well and we set off on a pleasant route round Chorley to Whittle Le Woods, Brindle and through Feniscowles to Tockholes where we stopped for a brew at the little cafe by the Rock Inn. When we came to set off again we had another reluctant starter so after a push to start it the rider headed home to fix whatever the problem was. Just 50 yards up the road another bike spluttered to a stop and this time it seemed the carburetter was flooding so a change of plug and and a clear out of the cylinder had it running again. We then took the A675 over the tops past the Bolton Sailing club and through Belmont village. Turning left just after the village we did a circuit of Delph reservoir before returning to Belmont village where we turned left at the Black Dog to go over Belmont and down to Bolton Road. A left turn here took us to Horwich where we again turned left after the lower Rivington Reservoir to get to the Rivington Lower Barn parking area where we stopped to take our lunch. It was very busy here as the children in this area seemed to be on Easter holidays and there were many bikes arriving and departing.
After lunch we set off home via Whittle Le woods and Buckshaw Village with riders peeling off as they got to their favoured roads home. John was spot on with his estimate of 50 miles from the club, exactly what I clocked!
A lovely first ride of the year. Thanks to John for planning the route and leading us round.
