John Moon’s Run Report 5th June 2021
7 riders showed up at Brock on a lovely sunny day. We had received apologies from Tony J, Colin G, Richard K and Dave Y so at 10:35 we set off. John took us through Longridge and took the left fork off the Ribchester road towards Knowle Green/ Hurst Green and on to Mitton and past Bashall Barn. At Waddington we turned left to Grindleton, carried on to Bolton By Bowland and shortly after stopped at Coars Farm Reclamation Yard and Garden Centre where we had a look round and ordered coffees. John told us that his farm was just over the hill in front of the gate and so this really was was his home turf. John’s friend joined us here on a very nice ‘57 G80 so now we were 8.
We then followed some very nice lanes to Wigglesworth, Rathmel and past a very imposing farm called Lawkland Hall. Then on across the A65 and into Clapham where we took the back road to Ingleton. A lovely day to travel this road with the view over the valley towards Bentham being stunning. At Ingleton we turned right to go past White Scar Caves and up to the Ribblehead viaduct. We turned right here past all the crowds (seemingly there were runners competing in a 3 peaks race) to travel to Horton in Ribblesdale and shortly after we pulled off at Studfold Farm tea shop where we settled down on the grass and in the tea rooms for our lunch.
After our lunch break we set off down towards Settle where Chris filled up with petrol. His tank is very small on his special! A mile or so later at the A65 Chris and Peter left us to go home to Lancaster and Morecambe.
We crossed the A65 and travelling south we headed for Wigglesworth. Just out of Wigglesworth we pulled in to the car park of the The Plough Inn and had a break with Wallings ice creams. John’s friend left us here to go home and shortly after this, John and Dave left us to head for the A59 at Clitheroe.
We then rode through Bolton by Bowland and on arriving at Waddington Bob lost his visor fitting somehow, so he also left us to head for Clitheroe and the A59 home. John and I travelled on to Mitton Green where I waved him goodbye and left to go Home via Longridge.
I arrived home just after 4:30 and the bike was showing that I had covered 146 miles so the run from Brock had been as John had planned, just about 100 miles. Thanks to all who participated in a lovely run and many thanks to John for planning and leading it and the nice refreshment break locations.
