Dave’s Amazing Chipshop Run 2022
10 members turned up for the Chip Shop Run on a pleasant morning. Ernie arrived on his 350 with Sheila on pillion. Ernie’s finally got round to fitting a mirror and now says it’s for sale! Graham arrived on a Kawasaki 800 but said he couldn’t come on the run as he had to do the ironing. Peter arrived just in time on his modified Honda 250 (we would’ve waited Peter, honest!). Rob says his twin has eaten another magneto and he’s thinking of fitting a sidecar to carry spare ones.
At Eccleston after devouring our fish and chips we set off and soon reached the Mawdesley Triangle and after the first set of roadworks we emerged unscathed by the Eagle and Child. Back Lane in Lathom had been mostly resurfaced but was closed further down at Newburgh. The diversion wasn’t out of our way though and we turned up Cobbs Brow and after the next set of roadworks turned onto Spa Lane into Lathom. From Bickerstaffe we rode to Rainford and then Crawford to Pimbo towards Ashurst Beacon. At Parbold Village we got held up at the level crossing (the fat controller was eating his sandwiches) and then we just had to ride up Stoney Lane (it’s the law!).
At the Farmers Arms we were told it only opened at 3pm from today! The landlady was just leaving but after getting into her Porsche she changed her mind and opened up for us. After a nice pint of Wainwrights and a good old chat about insulation we headed off for home.
