Bob’s Late Morning Run
A pleasant sunny morning greeted 5 bikes and 6 members at the bluebird Hotel and after a short chat Bob led us off for a short run round the Samlesbury area which started with a trip through Balderstone and Osbaldeston to get us back on the A59 towards Whalley. At Tiggis Restaurant we turned off up to the Spread Eagle at Ramsgreave and turned right to Mellor. The view across the Ribble Valley was very clear and quite a magnificent sight. In Mellor, at the Feildens Arms, we turned left up the hill and at the top turned left on the A677 towards Blackburn. At the Stanley House junction we turned off and followed the narrow lanes to Samlesbury Bottoms and on to Hoghton, Riley Green and back to Coupe Green to get to Bob’s house.
It was pleasant 17 mile route with no farm traffic holding us up but plenty of clods of mud on the roads where haymaking was now in full swing.
At Bob’s we met up with Barbara and other guests for a sit down under the gazebo with a selection of cold and hot drinks. A short while later Barbara brought out the Hotpot and cheesy baked potatoes for lunch. A pleasant time was spent enjoying the food and chatter. Barbara then brought out the delicious deserts. Sherry trifle and lemon meringue pie. Great food and lovely company.
At about 3:30 we all departed and headed home. I was lucky to get back to Lytham in the dry as when I left Preston I detected rain drops on my visor and by the time I got to Lytham it became a shower, but I made it home before it became too heavy.
Thanks to Bob and Barbara for a lovely run and great hospitality.
