Bob’s Afternoon Run

A lovely sunny afternoon greeted the 7 bikes and 8 riders at the Bluebird Hotel at Samlesbury. We waited a little longer than 12:00 to ensure no late riders turned up but at 12:10 we set off.

Bob led us through Balderstone and Osbaldeston to get back on the A59 at the Bay Horse and a mile east we turned off down a narrow lane, behind a tractor and trailer to get to Top of Ramsgreave where we turned right at the Spread Eagle crossroads. Along this road there was a lovely view to our right across the Ribble valley towards Longridge and Ribchester. We then passed through Mellor and down to Mellor Brook where we turned left up Mire Ash Brow and at the top of the hill reached the A677. A left here and 500 yards took us to a right turn at the Stanley House Hotel and a narrow lane which led to a junction near the Nabs Head pub and a left turn here took us down to Samlesbury Bottoms. The chosen route here was blocked by a Road Closed sign so a slight detour was made to get us down onto Roach Road where we turned left up the hill. At the Boars head at Hoghton we turned left onto the A675. A mile or so along here we passed Hoghton Towers and turned right into Dover Lane. This took us into Gregson Green and right on onto Coup Green where we turned left to arrive at Bob’s abode.

We all parked up in the drive and Bob found some cardboard to put under our oily steeds and we decamped into the back garden where Barbara, son Andrew and swimming friend John greeted us. (Oh and 2 lovely dogs!)

Barbara had prepared drinks and food and we spent the next couple of hours chatting, eating the hotpot and shepherds pie, drinking vimto, tea and coffee finished off with a superb lemon meringue pie.

After a couple of hours, food and drinks consumed, thanks were given to Bob and Barbara we all saddled up and went our separate ways home. I, for one, was very full and didn’t need a meal in the evening!

Many thanks to Bob and Barbara for all the effort put in to make our afternoon such an enjoyable time.
