The annual Memorial run led by Dave started from our Catterall venue on a cloudy but warmish morning. The forecast was mixed but it all seemed dry around Garstang and after a refreshments 12 riders and one trike set off behind Dave in the direction of Longridge. From Longridge we headed off past The Inn at Whitewell to Dunsop Bridge. In this area the roads were quite wet and I thought we might be heading into rain but luckily we arrived in Slaidburn in the dry and by the time we had concluded our break the clouds had lightened and some blue patches were visible. A few photos were taken here and then we set off over the moors to arrive at the garden centre in Wray for lunch.

In Wray it was the annual scarecrow festival week and the field had large bouncy castles a big food tent serving a variety of sausage, bacon and beef baps and beverages so we were well set up for lunch. The organiser of the event came and talked to us and was very helpful in telling us about all the events they had planned.

After lunch we set off through the crowded town and on to Caton where we turned left down through Quernmore, Oakenclough, Garstang and to our final destination at Myerscough Garden Centre Cafe where we sat in the garden in blazing sunshine taking more refreshments to end the day.

It was a great day out on the bike and a good turnout with no mishaps and thankfully none of the showers that had been forecast hit us.

Thanks to Dave for leading the run and to those who turned up to join in.

My addendum:

Recording these rides is difficult when you don’t know the area and making a report from memories is often inaccurate, but on a previous run one of our Members, Paul, had identified an App that allows you to record your route using a phones’ GPS system. The App is called Cali-moto so I downloaded it and spent some time trying to work out how to use it. You-tube was a big help here as the app is not very intuitive. Having worked out how to set it up to record a journey I set it off at home and was able to pause it at our stops and then restart it after each rest stop. I had a look at the result when I arrived home in Lytham and I must say it did a good job and recorded the route and the mileage even the average and max speed! I was able to send the output as a link to my email and opened it up on the App on my desktop computer which allowed me to create a .jpg file and post the result in the gallery with the photos.

This seems like a good way to record the route of runs we take and I can recommend the App, especially as the basic facilities are FREE!
