14 Riders turned up for the last run of the year planned and led by John Roddam. A little dull to start with but the clouds parted during the ride which turned out to be a wonderful saunter round the lanes through Brock Bottoms to Chipping and on to Dunsop Bridge for a break.
From Dunsop Bridge we took the road to Newton in Bowland and turning right we carried on to Bashall Barn for lunch. We were a bit surprised to find we had arrived as a wedding party was ongoing as we arrived but after checking the situation all was well and we took up residence in the cafe for some sustenance.
The view from the car park is lovely with Pendle Hill in the distance and the Clitheroe cement factory announcing its presence with the ever present plume of water vapour emanating from its chimney!
Leaving here we rode to the new Drop Inn and turned right to Jeffrey Hill where we turned left and stopped to take in the scenic view. To our right was the view over to Bleasedale and Parlick with Chipping nestled in the valley and Beacon Fell to the west. To the left was the view over the Ribble Valley across to Winter Hill. All very tranquil in the hazy sunshine. Then we carried on down past Longridge Golf Club and a few more miles through minor lanes to arrive at Beacon Fell Visitor Centre for a comfort break. Here, several riders had some problems as the wet pine needles on the car park and its sloping nature caused a couple of skids and two fallen bikes. No injuries and no damage so all was well.
From here we set off to visit John’s house at Inglewhite and from here it was a short ride back to the Myerscough Garden Centre and cafe to round off the day sitting in the sun on the patio chatting.
A lovely way to round off the riding year.
Thanks John for your first run, it was very well organised with some lovely locations.
