(Adventures of The Soggy Seven)
Seven members met at CRFC on a very wet morning. John said that the weather would clear up soon and we set off with promises of sun and swaying palm trees. In fact he was so sure that he didn’t put any overtrousers on. I soon found that my overtrousers were very good…….at keeping the water in!

We followed a zig-zag route and eventually stopped at Ribchester for a break. It started raining as soon as we set off again and didn’t stop until Dunsop Bridge where we had a coffee break.

The Soggy Seven continued to Clapham and enjoyed soup and rolls at the café. Refreshed and a bit drier (on the outside) we set off for Slaidburn. In Gisburn Forest we encountered the usual clints and grykes across the road. No choice but to go straight across. Tony enjoyed it most, dancing over it on his rigid G3!

At Slaidburn we met a large group of VMCC members on various classic bikes. Richard was immediately drawn to 2 Sunbeam S7’s and pointed out to us the rear hub was from a Russian T34 tank! Steve was deep in conversation with a Velocette owner and seemed amazed to discover that the front forks aren’t supposed to be rigid! It started first kick too (at the fifteenth attempt!)
Many thanks John for a well-planned route and we all enjoyed it very much despite the damp start.

Dave.
