Jim’s Run to Winfields Bike Collection.
6 members met on the hottest day of the year at the Bluebird Hotel car park opposite BAE Salmesbury. There were 3 AJS twins, a Matchless single, RE Bullet and a Triumph Daytona. Jim led us off towards Mellor and through Whalley. Through Sabden towards Padiham. We stopped at a nice café for a break. At this point Alan remembered an old mate who owed him 20p so he went off to find him! We carried on to Winfields where we found a shady spot in the blazing sun and found the bikes on display. It was lovely and cool inside where we inspected the bikes next to the men’s shoes. It was hard to pick a favourite out as there is such a good variety of British and Italian classics on show. The 4 AJS bikes there were an S3 transverse V twin. A Cammy R7 racer, a 7R and a 1937 18T (sister bike to one that Tony used to own).
We retired to the café for sustenance before starting on the return leg of the run. Jim went on his own way home from here so Rob took over the run and led us on a nice tour of the lanes back to the A59 where John and David split off for home. Thanks to Jim and Rob for a good run in great weather.
